Vegetarian Havana
Join me early in the morning to visit the local agro– the fruit and vegetable market. Apart from the colourful products, it is also a study in Cuban society. Everyone from paladares and casa owners to grandmothers come to get the best products according to season.
My casa Nini with its roof terrace and outdoor kitchen is conveniently located just two blocks from the market, so this is the first stop after the market. Casa Nini has many vegetarian guests and often attracts breakfast guests from other casas in the neighbourhood. We will try a couple of our signature breakfast dishes and I will tell you about the seasons, Cuban food culture and how we work to create dishes with severe limitations in available ingredients.
After the visit to my terrace we will visit two excellent paladares (private restaurants) in Old Havana. In each of them we will have a cocktail or soft drink and sample some of their signature dishes. Before we part I will give you a list of my favourite paladeres for vegetarians in Havana, so that you will be all set for the rest of your stay here.
